Sorting commercial renovation debris before pickup

List debris by material before asking for removal. Wood, drywall, metal, packaging and heavy masonry affect the job differently, and unknown or regulated material needs its own assessment.

Identify the material mix

Make separate piles or a clear written inventory for wood, drywall, metal and packaging. Note concrete, brick or tile because dense loads change handling.

Hold questionable material aside

Do not mix paint, solvents, chemicals, asbestos-containing material or other regulated items into a general debris pickup. Ask a qualified professional about material you cannot identify.

Keep the work area usable

Coordinate with the site manager so piles do not block exits, work routes or another trade. OSHA advises keeping aisles and passageways clear when handling materials.

Describe access and timing

Give the floor, loading route, quantity, material mix and the earliest safe pickup window. A renovation may change daily; update the inventory when the scope changes.
